Espero que todos están bien. Siguen trabajando los campamentos tortugueros aquí en la Bahía de Jaltemba. Como pueden ver, campamento el Naranjo ya tiene 58 nidos de tortuga Golfina. Voy a ir al campamento Punta Raza esta fin para traer noticias de los esfuerzos de protección por parte de "Desarrollos Punta Raza".

Hope everybody is well. The turtle camps here in the Bay of Jaltemba continue working hard. As you can see, el Naranjo turtle camp now has 58 nests of Olive Ridley turtle. This weekend I hope to go to Punta Raza turtle camp to bring news to the blog about the protection efforts being made by "Desarrollos Punta Raza".

Quiero enseñarles unos fotos de la nueva caseta de incubación en la playa el Naranjo. Fue construido con dinero donado por SEDESOL. Como pueden ver, ya tenemos un lugar con el espacio necesario para guardar muchos nidos, en una manera organizada y segura.

Here are some photos of the new incubation room at El Naranjo beach. It was built using a donation from the government agency SEDESOL. As you can see, we now have a safe and organised place to store our turtle nests.

Anoche encontré 6 nidos en playa el Naranjo.

Hoy vamos a construir el nuevo casa de incubación en el Naranjo. En la tarde voy a subir las fotos de la nuevo caseta para que pueden verlo. Ok tengo que ir al campamento para ayudar.

Sobre lluvia y Golfinas

Hola a todos

¡Sigue lloviendo! (dispulpame pero tengo que hablar sobre el clima, soy inglesa) y para los que están interestados (pocas) , no hay luz en Los Ayala.

Espero a ir al campamento el Naranjo mas tarde para checar si encontraron nidos anoche. Pero si puedo informarles que martes en la noche fue encontrados 2 nidos (el Naranjo), y ninguna en guayabitos.

Its still raining! (sorry, have to talk about the weather, Im English) and for those who care (not many), there is no electricity in Los Ayala.

I am hopeing to go to El Naranjo turtle camp later to check if there were nests last night. however I can tell you that two nests were collected on Tuesday night (el Naranjo), none were found on guayabitos beach.

El plan fue a ir a Punta Raza hoy para checar cuantos nidos están pero con la lluvia mi Vocho no puede llegar. Espero que mañana voy a tener los nuevas nidos anotadas en el blog y unos fotos. Entonces por favor siguen checando.

Voy a poner un poquito de informacion general sobre las tortugas marinas y la especie golfina, a la derecha de esta pagina para los que quieren leer un poquito.

The plan (yes sometimes I plan) was to go and check how many nests they have at Punta Raza camp but with the rain my VW bettle cant make it. Hope to have the Punta Raza nests updated and on the blog tomorrow night. So please keep checking the blog.


I am going to put a little general information about turtles and the Olive Ridley turtle (golfina) on the right of this page for those who wish to know the basics about the specie. (please send me a comment if you want me to put it up in english).

Anoche 8 nidos

Hola

Anoche los voluntarios de el Naranjo encontraron 5 nidos de tortuga golfina. También fue una buena noche para la playa guayabitos donde fue encontrados 3 nidos (vamos a ver mas nidos de la playa guayabitos, ya que las vacaciones han terminado).

Last night the volunteers at el Naranjo camp found 5 Olive Ridley nests. It was also a good night on Guayabitos beach where 3 nests were found (we will be finding more nests on Guayabitos beach now that the holidays are over).

Sobre el cocodrilo, pues sigue ahí cuidando protección civil. Esperamos que SEMARNAT venga rápido para llevarlo a un nuevo territorio porque hace mucho calor donde esta.

About the crocodile: well hes still guarding Civil Protection. We hope that SEMARNAT will come soon and take him to his new home as it is too hot for him where he is currently.

Sigue lloviendo y como pueden ver las palmas en el campamento están creciendo rápido.

Pues disculpen la tardanza de esta entrada pero hoy fue regreso a clases entonces no tuve oportunidad mas temprano.

Sorry about being a little late with this entry, but it was back to university today and so I didnt have an oportunity earlier.

Si tienen que visitar la oficina de protección civil de Guayabitos estos días ¡¡¡CUIDADO!!!! hay una enorme cocodrilo cuidando la entrada de la oficina! la bestia de UN METRO! fue capturada patrullando las calles de La Colonia pero ya ha sido reclutada como protección para la Protección Civil hasta que SEMARNAT encuentre un lugar mejor para el.

If you have to visit the Civil Protection (police) here in Guayabitos over the next few days BEWARE!!!! there is a huge crocodile guarding the door to the office! the monster mesureing ONE METER! was captured patrolling the streets of La Colonia and so has been recruted to protect, civil protection until SEMARNAT (wildlife agency) finds a better place for him.



Como pueden ver a la derecha ya tenemos 27 nidos rescatados de la playa el Naranjo y 8 de playa Guayabitos. Creo que vamos bien, anoche hubo 4 nidos en el Naranjo.

As you can see on the right, we now have 27 nests saved from el Naranjo beach and 8 from Guayabitos. I think we are doing well, last night 4 nests were collected from el Naranjo.

In the photo below you can see some off the nests from el Naranjo being incubated in unicel boxes.

También quiero dar felicidades al Campamento Nuevo Vallarta, el cual ya tiene 2000 nidos rescatados (100 de anoche!). Buenas noticias para la protección de la tortuga en Nayarit.

I would also like to congratulate Nuevo Vallarta Camp, who now have 2000 nests (100 last night). Great news for turtle protection in Nayarit.

Hola

Esta lloviendo! pues que bueno para las tortugas (aunque no para mi). Ayer Ricardo Villaseñor (secretario del grupo) llego a Guayabitos para entregar la moto 4x4, buenas noticias para todas nosotras y para las tortugas tambien. Espero que vamos a ver el numero de nidos rescatados para el Naranjo subir.

Tambien Angél del Hotel Gaviotas (Guayabitos) encontro otro nido para guayabitos en la noche, subiendo el total a 7. Poquitas pero cada una es importante.

Los voluntarios en Punta Raza estan esperando que nazcan 3 nidos comensando el dia de mañana, y ya necesitan construir otra corral para siembra de los nidos porque ya no tienen espacio!

Ok es toda para hoy, pero espero ir al campamento mas tarde para tomar unos fotos de la moto para subir al blog.

Its raining! great for the turtles (not so great for me). Yesterday Ricardo Villaseñor (the groups secretary) came to Guayabitos to deliver the new quad bike, great news for all of us, and for the turtles as well. Hopefully we will see the number of rescued nests rise for el Naranjo beach.

Also, Angél from the Hotel Gaviotas (Guayaitos) found another nest for Guayabitos last night raising the total to 7. Not many but every nest is important.

The Volunteers in Punta Raza are waiting for 3 nests to hatch, hopefully beginning tomorrow, and now they need to build a new area to incubate the eggs as they have ran out of room!

Ok, thats all for today but hopefully I will go to el Naranjo later to take some photos of the new quad bike for the blog.

¿Carey?

Anoche los voluntarios del campamento el Naranjo encontraron un nido, que por el tamaño de sus huevos y el numero (181 en total), consideramos que es de tortuga Carey. Excelente noticia después de 4 años de el ultimo registro de tortuga Carey en esta playa.

También hubo 3 nidos de golfina mas ayer en la noche (el Naranjo).

Last night volunteers at el Naranjo turtle camp found a nest, that due to the size and number of the eggs (total of 181), we bieleve to be of the Hawksbill turtle. This is great news after not recording a nest of this specie in the last 4 years.

Also were found 3 nests of the specie Olive Ridley.

Para todo los que han disfrutado de esta playa, les recordamos que esta siendo desarrollada. Así es que apurense y visitanos antes de que este llena de hoteles de lujo.

For all of you who have enjoyed this beach, we remind you that it is now under development. So hurry and come visit us before it is full of luxury hotels.

Punta Raza: 44 nidos!

Hola a todos

Hoy fui a Punta Raza para ver como van los guardias y policía patrullando la playa de 3.5km. Pues como dice el titulo van muy bien, ya tienen 44 nidos sembrados en coral (foto de arriba).

Today I visited Punta Raza to see how the guards and the police are doing patrolling the 3.5Km beach. Like the title says, they now have a total of 44 nests being incubated in a fensed off area of the beach.

Ayer en la noche llegaron 4 tortugas para anidar.

Para los que no saben, del nido de Laúd (del día 10/05/07) solo una tortugita nació, y esta no sobrevivio para ser liberado. Esperamos mas suerte la próxima temporada.

Yesterday 4 female turtles arrived to lay there eggs.

For those who dont know, the Leatherback nest (from 10/05/07) only 1 baby turtle hatched and died before it could be released. Hopefully we will be luckier next season.

Hoy fui al campamento el Naranjo para llenar el reporte de nidos, ya hay 12 nidos.

Por favor recuerden a traer una playa del campamento o tu credencial si quieres visitar el campamento pasando por las dunas, para que no tienen problema con la seguridad, si entres el campamento por la playa, no hay ninguna problema.

Today I visited the camp to get the numbers for the report, playa el Naranjo now has 12 nests.

If you wish to visit the camp passing over the dune, please remember your camp t-shirt or credencial so that you can pass security without a problem. If you enter the camp by the beach theres no problem.

Viernes 10 agosto: Platica sobre tortugas marinas en el Hotel Peñamar y liberación de tortugitas.

Friday 10th August: a talk on marine turtles was held at the Hotel Peñamar followed by the release of hatchling turtles.

El día de ayer nacieron las primeras tortugitas de la temporada 2007 El Naranjo.

También quiero informarles que campamento Punta Raza ya tienen 32 nidos!

Yesterday the first hatchlings from El Naranjo camp season 2007 hatched.

Also, great news, Punta Raza camp has already collected 32 nests!
