Espero que todas estan disfrutiendo estas vacaciones.

Voy a estar en Inglaterra con mi familia hasta 18 de enero 2008!

Espero que puedo publicar un poquito de informacion sobre los trabajos de Los Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit con Venado Cola Blanca este mes.

Pescando

Una vez mas la flota camaronera ha realizado pesca en aguas poco profundas en la bahia de jaltemba, arrasando con todas las especies que se encuentran en etapas de crecimiento aun, dañando la economia de los pescadores ribereños que sustentan a sus familias a traves de esta actividad.

Once again the fishing boats are realising fishing in the shallow waters of the Jaltemba Bay, catching all types of species as bycatch (some in growth stages). This activity damages the economy of our local coastal fishermen, who rely on there catch to mantain there families.

Lo mas grave es que esta flota pertenece a otros Estados de la Republica, asi que una vez terminada la temporada de pesca de camaron se retiran a sus lugares sin beneficiar a nuestras comunidades y dejando el ecosistema agotado sin posibilidad de sustentar a las familias de nuestra zona.

The worst thing is that these boats come from others states of Mexico (not Nayarit), and so when the shrimp season ends they return to there home states bringing no benefit to our local communities and leaving a damaged ecosystem and fewer oportunities behind for the families in the Jaltemba Bay who in most cases earn a living from fishing or tourism.

Vamos a liberar 40 tortuguitas.
Today we are going to release hatchlings in a public event at the Tralier Park in La Peñita.

We will be releasing 40 turtles

Tortuguitas Gemelos. TWINS

Ayer nacieron 110 tortuguitas. Cuando estaba revisando los huevos que no nacieron para un trabajo que estoy haciendo, encontre estas tortuguitas gemelos embriones (muertas).

Yesterday 110 eggs hatched. While I was checking the eggs that had not hatched for a project that I am doing, I found these twin embryo turtles (dead).
Abajo puedes ver fotos de las tortuguitas de ayer, esperando la noche para ser liberadas.

Below you can see the turtles that hatched yesterday waiting to be released at dark.

Hoy nacieron 83 tortuguitas los cuales vamos a liberar hoy a las 6.30pm.

And, today 83 turtles hatched. We will be releasing them at 6.30pm.

Trabajando en el Campamento y BALLENAS

Buenos dias

Disculpa la falta de nueva entradas. Estamos en el proceso de cerrar el campamento para esta temporada pero no significa que no hay nada para reportar!

Las fotos de arriba son de hoy a las 7.00am en el campamento. Aquí pueden ver la voluntaria Abby subiendo agua del poso para regar las plantas y palmas del campamento. En estas días de seco necesitamos regarlas plantas del campamento frecuentemente.

¡Los Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit no solo trabajamos con tortugas marinas!

Abajo pueden ver que las ballenas ya han llegadas al Bahía de Jaltemba. El viernes pasada hubo un curso de información sobre avistamiento de ballenas jorobadas para las personas que realizan esta actividad aquí en la Bahía. El MVZ Carlos del Villar de SEMARNAT hablo sobre los leyes relacionadas con esta actividad y la biología de la especie.

Una cosa muy interesante es que las ballenas jorobadas llegaron temprano esta año. La primera avistemiento de Jorabada esta temporada fue en Octubre!

Morning

Sorry about the lack of entries. We are in the process of closing the camp for the season, but that doesnt mean that theres nothing to report!

The photos above are from this morning at 7.00am in the turtle camp. Here you see Abby one of our volunteers, getting water from the well to water the plants and palm trees. During the dry season we need to water the plants frecuently so that they continue to grow well.

¡Los Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit dont only work with Marine Turtles!

Below you can see that the Humpback whales have now arrived in the Bay of Jaltemba. Last friday a course for whale watching was held for buisnessess involved in this activity. The course given by MVZ Carlos del Villar from the government agency SEMARNAT. It focused on Whale watching and the Law and Biology of Humpaback whales.

Something I find intresting is that the whales are arriving this year earlier. The first sighting in the area this year was made in Octobre!

El noche de hoy va a ser la ultima noche de patrullaje en Playa el Naranjo para la temporada de 2007.

Esta temporada lo cual coincide con el Año de la Tortuga Marina en México, hemos protegido 181 nidos de Tortuga Golfina de la playa el Naranjo.


Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit quiere agredecerte por todo el apoyo que hemos recidido esta temporada.

Vamos a seguir liberando las tortugitas que nazcan.

Tonight will be the last night of patrols on el Naranjo beach for turtle season 2007.


During this season which coinsides with mexicos Year of the Marine Turtle, we have protected 181 Olive Ridley turtle nests from el Naranjo beach.


Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit would like to thank everyone for all the support we have recieved this season.


We will be continuing to release the baby turtles when they hatch.

Buenos días

El noche de martes los voluntarios encontraron 2 nidos de tortuga golfina en la playa de el Naranjo, Nayarit. Buenas noticias porque tenemos una semana sin nidos.

Ayer liberaron 130 tortuguitas golfinas en la playa de Rincón de Guayabitos con un grupo de turistas nacionales y internacionales. Hicimos dos explicaciones uno en ingles por mi, y otra en español por vicente. Los voluntarios Abby, Lucy y Andy vendieron playeras para ganar fondos para el campamento.

Nacieron ayer un nido de tortuga con dos crías con una aleta blanca cada una! mañana subo las fotos de ellas, están muy bonitas.

On Tuesday night the volunteers found 2 Olive Ridley turtle nests on el Naranjo beach, Nayarit state. Great news as we havent had nests for about a week.

Yesterday we released 130 hatchlings on Rincon de Guayabitos beach with a group of national and international tourists. We did the explication in spanish (by vicente) and english (by me). The volunteers Abby, Lucy and Andy help raising funds for the camp by selling T-shirts.

Also, yesterday 2 baby turtles hatched, each one with a white flipper! tomorrow I will but up the photos of them, they are cute.

Turtle Hatchlings

Como pueden ver en las fotos, seguimos liberando tortuguitas en todas las playas de la Bahía de Jaltemba.

Mañana tenemos planeado una liberación publica en la playa de Rincón de Guayabitos a las 6pm.

As you can see from the photos we are still releasing hatchlings on all the beaches in Jaltemba Bay.

Tomorrow we will be releasing hatchlings on Guayabitos beach a 6pm.

El domingo los voluntarios del campamento el Naranjo encontraron un nido de tortuga golfina en la playa de Rincón de Guayabitos.

Esta semana tuvimos el oportunidad a dar una platica sobre las tortugas marinas a los muchachos de una Prepa de Tepic (Lunes) y a 100 muchachos de una Secundaria también de Tepic, Nayarit (Martes).

On Sunday the volunteers from el Naranjo turtle camp found a Olive Ridley turtle nest on Ricon de Guayabitos beach.

This week we have had the oportunity to give talks about Marine turtles to the students of a sixth form (Monday) and 100 students from a school in Tepic (Tuesday).

Hoy nacieron 4 nidos de tortuga golfina en el campamento tortuguero El Naranjo. En media hora algunos de los voluntarios van a hacer el liberacion de estas crias en Rincon de Guayabitos.

Today 4 olive ridley nests hatched at El Naranjo turtle camp. In half an hour some of the volunteers will be releasing the hatchlings on Guayabitos beach.

On the Right of the screen is part of the film we took of the arribazon of olive ridley turtles in Oaxaca.

Nacen 2 nidos de Carey en Punta Raza

Ayer nacieron 2 nidos de Tortuga Carey en la playa de Punta Raza, Nayarit!
Buenas noticias porque la Bahia de Jaltemba tiene 4 años sin registrando un nido de Carey.

Muchas gracias a Desarrollos Punta Raza por el trabajo y compromiso que tienen a proteger las tortugas marinas de esta playa.

Espero que puedo subir unos fotos de las crías mañana.

Yesterday 2 Hawksbill turtle nests hatched on Punta Raza beach, Nayarit!

Great news as we havent registerd a hawksbill nest for the past 4 years in the Bay of Jaltemba, Nayarit.

Thanks to Desarrollos Punta Raza for the work and commitment they are giving to the protection of marine turtles on Punta Raza beach.

Hopefully will have photos to show you tomorrow.

Domingo: El diputado local de Nayarit, David Ribera Bernal y esposa, visitaron el campamento de proteccion a la tortuga marina "El Naranjo", aqui los vemos trabajando en la limpieza y conteo de nidos en corral.

Sunday: David Ribera Bernal local deputy for Nayarit and his wife, visited el Naranjo turtle protection camp, here we see them working at cleaning nests and counting hatchlings.

El noche de viernes los voluntarios encontraron 2 nidos de tortuga Golfina en la playa de el Naranjo.

Hoy vamos a liberar los nidos que están naciendo (10 nidos) en la playa de Rincón de Guayabitos. El liberación es para todas y entonces si quieres aprender un poquito sobre las tortugas marinas, y liberar las crías, nos vemos a las 6pm enfrente de "Villas Buena Vida"

On friday night the volunteers found 2 Olive Ridley nests on el Naranjo beach.

Today we will be releasing the turtles that are hatching (10 nests) on Rincon de Guayabitos beach. It is a public event so if you would like to learn a little about Marine Turtles and release the hatchlings we will see you infront of "Villas Buena Vida" at 6pm.

Llegaron los Scouts

Ayer llegaron los scouts al campamento el Naranjo para campar y liberar tortuguitas marinas. Después de una platica sobre las tortugas liberaron 200 tortuguitas.

Yesterday a group of Scouts visited el Naranjo turtle beach to camp and release marine turtles. After a talk abot marine turtles they released 200 turtle hatchlings.
