Pues como pueden ver de las fotos, ayer fue una dia con muchas actividades para el Grupo Ecologistas de Nayarit.

Pueden ver Vicente platicando con unos niños que llegaron el viernes con sus familias para aprender sobre las tortugas marinas. Creo que van a recordar esta fin de semana como una buena experiencia, algunos tenian el suerte a ver una tortuga hembra desolvando en la playa de El Naranjo!

Well as you can see from the photos, yesterday was a busy day for the Ecological Group.

You can see Vicente giving a talk to some children who arrived on friday with there families to learn about the Marine Turtles. I think they will all remember this weekend as a nice experience, some of the children had the luck of watching a adult female Olive Ridley laying her eggs on El Naranjo beach!

Despues de la platica fuimos a la playa de Guayabitos para liberar unos 120 tortuguitas en una evento publico. Como pasa mucho, hubo mas adultos y niños presentes en la liberacion que tortuguitas. La liberacion fue muy bien con los adultos y niños muestrando muchos interes en la vida de las tortugas.

Hoy vamos a hacer otra liberacion a la 6pm en la playa Guayabitos. Tenemos 4 nidos naciendo de playa el Naranjo y 1 de playa Guayabitos.

Felicidades a Campamento Punta Raza acaban a liberar 600 tortuguitas!

After the talk for the children we went to Guayabitos beach to hold a public release of 120 turtle hatchlings. As happens often, there were more abults and children than turtles. The release went very well, everyone was very interested to learn about the turtles.

Today a 6pm we are going to have another public release. At the momento we have 4 nests hatching from el Naranjo and 1 from Guayabitos.

Congratulations to Punta Raza camp who just released 600 hatchlings.

Ayer llegaron un grupo de visitantes de Greenpeace Guadalajara con sus familias para ver las tortugas marinas y liberar tortugitas.

En la noche nos fuimos un rato al campamento el Naranjo para patrullar y a ver un nido de tortuga golfina eclosionando. Los niños estaban fascinados con las tortugitas y tenian muchas preguntas buenas para los voluntarios.

A la 6pm vamos a ir a la playa Guayabitos para hacer una liberacion publica con explinacion sobre las tortugas marinas.

Yesterday a group of visitors from Greenpeace Guadalajara arrived at the camp with there families to see marine turtles and release baby turtles.

Last night we took them to the turtle camp to see the marine turtles and watch a Olive ridley nest hatch. The children were fasinated with the turtles and had lots of good questions for the volunteers.

At 6pm we are all going to guayabitos beach to hold a public release and explain about the marine turtles and why we need to protect them.

Como pueden ver de las fotos ya estamos en la mitad del temporada de la tortuga golfina 2007. Siempre me ha gustada este mes porque todavia tenemos las tortugas adultas llegando pero a diferencia de julio y gran parte de agosto tenemos las crias.

Nuestras voluntarios mas jovenes (7 y 8 años) ya estan escritas en escuela. Los dos son cuidadas por una de las familias que trabajan en el campamento el Naranjo, despues que se fue la mama de ellos. Quiero tomar la oportunidad a ver si alguien pueden donar un poquito de dinero para ayudar a cuidarlos.

As you can see from the photos, we are now in the middle of the 2007 Olive Ridley turtle season. Ive always liked this month as we still have the female turtles arriving to lay there eggs but now have the hatchling turtles as well which we dont have during July and most of august.

Are youngest volunteers (7 and 8 years old) are now attending school. The two boys are looked after by one of the familes that work at the turtle camp, after the mother abandond them. If any one has a little money they could donate to help the family look after them it would be much apreciated.

4 nidos anoche

Disculpa la tardanza con esta entrada, estoy haciendo mis examenes.

Ok todo sigue bien aquí en Rincón de Guayabitos, ayer los voluntarios encontraron 4 nidos de tortuga (la noche anterior, encontraron ninguno pero hubo mucha lluvia y entonces puede ser que los raestros fueron borrados).

Ya están eclosionando los nidos! Buenas noticias porque significa el comienzo de los liberaciones publicas y una oportunidad para enseñar a la gente un poquito sobre las tortugas y porque tenemos que protegerlas.

El viernes fui al campamento Nuevo Vallarta para ayudar un poquito, limpiando nidos, creo que están naciendo un promedia de 100 nidos al día en el corral.

Sorry That I havent updated the blog this week, im in the middle of my exams.


Ok, Everything is going well here in Rincon de Guayabitos, last night the volunteers found 4 olive ridley nests (the night before, no nests were found but this was probably because it was rainning hard and so the tracks may have been washed away)


The nests are now hatching! great news because it means the start of the public releases, giving us the chances to teach people about the marine turtles and why they need to be protected.


On friday I went to Nuevo Vallarta camp to lend a hand cleaning out the nests. On average they have 100 nests hatching daily.

Ayer los voluntarios encontraron 4 nidos en la playa el Naranjo.

El campamento Punta Raza ya tienen 118 nidos de tortuga golfina. Vamos a conseguir cajas de unicel para los voluntarios en Punta Raza, para ver si las tortugas nacen mejor.

Yesterday the volunteers found 4 nests at el Naranjo beach.

At Punta Raza camp, they now have a total of 118 Olive Ridley nests. We are going to get some unicel boxes for them to incubate there nests to see if the turtles hatch better.

Ayer los voluntarios encontaron 4 nidos de tortuga golfina y hoy encontraron 5 nidos mas en la Playa el Naranjo.


Ayer llegaron 4 voluntarios mas de Gran Bretaña entonces ya tenemos 8 voluntarios extranjeros (9 si cuentas a mi) trabajando para proteger las tortugas marinas con Los Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit. También tenemos unos muchachos de la CONALEP ayudandonos patrullar.

Yesterday the volunteers at el Naranjo beach found 4 Olive Ridley nests and today they saved another 5 turtle nests.


Last night 4 more volunteers from the UK arrived at the camp so now we have a total of 8 foreign volunteers (9 counting me) working to protect the marine turtles with Los Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit. We also have some guys from the Prepa (sixth form) helping us to patrol.

Hace una hora Ricardo llego para llevar el Motor 4x4 para un servicio para el garantía entonces hoy todos vamos a patrullar a pie, en grupos de 3 o 4 para que hay menos probabilidad que perdemos un nido a los hueveros.


Creo que mañana va a nacer un nido, y para la próxima semana los nidos van a ser naciendo casi diario (espero).

About an hour ago Ricardo came to collect the Quad bike to take it for its 2nd service for its warranty. So today we will all be patrolling on foot in groups of 3 or 4 so that there is less chance that we will have a nest stolen de poachers.


I think we will have a nest hatching tomorrow, and by next week the nests should be hatching daily (I hope)

Llegaron las voluntarias

Buenas días

Perdón por la falta de información esta semana, tengo muchisimo trabajo para la escuela.

Ok, como a las 2 de la mañana llegaron las nuevas voluntarias inglesas. Las cuatro muchachas van a estar trabajando en el campamento el Naranjo y el campamento Punta Raza, recolectando, sembrando y protegiendo los nidos de tortuga marina aquí en la Bahía de Jaltemba, Nayarit.

Queremos decir que en Los Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit, estamos orgullosos de tener personas nacionales e internacionales donando su tiempo para ayudarnos a proteger las tortugas marinas. Sin la ayuda de tantas personas nuestro trabajo seria imposible.

Sorry about the lack of information this week, I am really busy at university.

OK, at around 2 in the morning the new English volunteers arrived at the Hotel Peñamar. The four girls will be working at both el Naranjo camp and Punta Raza turtle camp. Collecting and planting the nests of marine Olive Ridley turtles in boxes (incubating).

We (Grupos Ecologistas de Nayarit) want to take this opportunity to thank all our national and international volunteers for donating there time to help us save marine turtles.

Without the help of so many our work would be impossible.

To all our volunteers past, present and future, Thankyou!

Punta Raza Y una denuncia en la peñita

En unos 10 minutos voy a ir a liberar unas crías de tortuga, pueden ver las en las fotos con uno de nuestros voluntarios.

In 10 minutes I am going to go and release hatchling turtles, you can see them in the photos with one of our volunteers.

A las 11am de hoy, los policías vinieron al hotel para entregar 20 huevos de tortuga recupuerados de un huevero en La Peñita. Vamos a hacer una denuncia para que el señor, no puede hacerlo otra vez.

At 11am today, the local police came to the hotel to hand over 20 eggs that they took from a poacher in La Peñita. We are going to make a statement to the police against the man involved so that he can not do it again.

Algo mas positivo. Fui al campamento Punta Raza (si, los milagros pasan) y ya tienen 108 nidos de tortuga golfina.

On a more positive note. I went to punta raza camp today (miracles happen) and they now have 108 nests of Olive Ridley.

Sábado en la noche los voluntarios en campamento el Naranjo encontraron 8 nidos de tortuga Golfina!!!!! Este es un record en años recientes para nosotros en grupos ecologistas de Nayarit.

Anoche (la noche de domingo) hubo 3 nidos rescatados. Creo que vamos a tener tortugitas el vienes 7 de septiembre. (Nido 2, playa Guayabitos, 23/07/07)

On saturday night the volunteers of el Naranjo turtle camp found 8 Olive Ridley nests. This is a record number for the Ecological group in recent years.

Last night (sunday night) 3 olive ridley nests were saved. Hope to have hatchlings this friday (Nest 2, Guayabitos, 23/07/07)

Todos tienen que estar presentes en el campamento el Naranjo a las 8pm del sabado 8 de septiembre. Vamos a acampar entonces trae lo que necesites hamaca, casa de campaña, sleeping bag etc...

El noche de jueves los voluntarios encontré 3 nidos de Golfina.

Como todos saben (espero) utilizamos cajas de unicel para sembra nuestros nidos de Tortuga Golfina. Para nuestro campamento en la playa el Naranjo, esta es lo mejor forma de incubar los nidos.

Quiero informales que los cajas para este año son de mayor tamaño (gracias a nuestro secretario), entonces podemos espera un mayor numero de crías para liberar porque estas cajas dan condiciones mas estableses a los embriones para desarrollar.

On thursday night the volunteers found 3 Olive Ridley nests.

As you already know (hopefully) we use unicel boxes to incubate our Olive Ridley nests. At our camp on el Naranjo beach, this remains the best form of incubating the nests.

This year the boxes we are using are larger (thanks to our secretary) so hopefully we will be getting a larger number of hatchlings to release as these boxes will give a more stable environment for the embryos to develope.
